GENERAL DIRECTION

 WALCYR CARRASCO (Author/ Writer)

Walcyr Rodrigues Carrasco (Bernardino de Campos, December 1, 1951) is a writer, journalist, playwright, and author of Brazilian telenovelas.

Walcyr Carrasco, the writer of the soap opera Xica da Silva, was still employed by SBT, when he was invited to write the Xica.

He agreed to be responsible for the plot under the pseudonym of Adamo Rangel, hidden from Silvio Santos. In 2005, SBT acquired the rights to the soap opera and caused a big surprise in the television market.

The broadcaster's audience tripled in the 10 o'clock range, conquering the vice-leadership.

He started as an author of soap operas in the Brazilian Television System and consolidated himself as one of the main Brazilian authors after writing Xica da Silva and joining the open television network of Grupo Globo.

In 2016, he won the International Emmy Award for the plot directed by Mauro Mendonça Filho, Verdades Secretas, originally shown by Rede Globo at 11 pm.

He currently had a column of chronicles in Revista Época, published by Editora Globo.

WALTER AVANCINI (General director)

Nunciato Walter Abreu Avancini (São Caetano do Sul, April 18, 1935 – Rio de Janeiro, September 26, 2001) was a writer, author and director of telenovelas and miniseries.

His last works in telenovelas were in Rede Manchete where he launched several Brazilian actors such as Giovanna Antonelli, Taís Araújo, Murilo Rosa, among many others. He was also the one who saw in the actress Drica Moraes the possibility of a great villain in the soap opera Xica da Silva.

Walter died in 2001, a victim of prostate cancer, leaving work on the soap opera A Padroeira, completed by Roberto Talma, unfinished.

LUIZ PILAR (co-director)

Actor, producer, film, theater, and TV director, Pilar is one of those personalities who, instead of complaining about the difficulties of being black in Brazil, prefer to use talent and artistic work to change this reality of still suffering prejudice.

Many of Pilar's works address themes related to Afro-Brazilianness. Averse to demagoguery, he says: “It is an ideological issue, yes, but fundamentally it is because there is a commercial space that demands this type of production. Television, theater and cinema have to realize that working with this theme also pays off”.
